Wheeling Jesuit's Fund Raising Dinner, Gaudiosa, Raises $130,000 for Student Scholarships

Wheeling Jesuit University's annual fundraising dinner, Gaudiosa, once again this year raised more than $100,000 to support student scholarships. This year's event, held in late April, raised $130,000 and highlighted the talented students that attend WJU, said Dr. Debra Townsley, WJU president. “We are thankful to all the people who attended and supported this year's Gaudiosa, especially our event sponsors, the WJU Jesuit community and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston,” Townsley said. “The real winners of this evening are our students, since the monies raised go directly to fund scholarships.” Since its beginning in 2014, Gaudiosa has raised more than a half a million dollars, said Noah Mull '09, director of Advancement and Gaudiosa coordinator. “Once again this year, our students benefitted from the many sponsors who supported Gaudiosa. We had more than 300 guests in the audience who were treated to a spectacular show that featured Wheeling Jesuit students and alumni,” Mull added. The evening featured performances by the Wheeling Jesuit Jazz Ensemble, which provided dinner music. Following dinner, Katy Munhall '17 and Joshua Remaniak '17, rendition of “The Prayer” was greeted with thunderous applause. Samantha Herrington '17 followed singing “City of Stars.” Rounding out the student entertainment was the cast from Wheeling Jesuit's spring musical, 42nd Street, which performed four songs from the musical. The full cast members was on hand and featured soloists included: Becca Rodgers '17, Stephen Hansknecht '18, Nate Foster '20, Herrington, Munhall, Hallie Richards '18 and Bernadette Tirador '19. “Our students put on quite display of their talents during Gaudiosa. They certainly wowed everyone in the audience that night. I thank them for making this year's event a huge success,” Townsley added. Alumnus Christopher Bohinski '13, who performed and hosted last year, again served as emcee, and sang “O What a Beautiful Morning” and “I Was Here.” “It was a pleasure to once again host and perform at this year's Gaudiosa. Wheeling Jesuit gave me so much during my four years, and this event allows me to give back to my alma mater - which holds a special place in my heart,” said Bohinski.
