Bohinski’s Smile Day gets presidential nod of approval
Staff Report
WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Chris Bohinski recently received a letter that really made him smile.
Known for his efforts to promote happiness, positivity and joy, Bohinski is preparing for the Second Annual Smile Day, slated for Saturday, Oct. 2o, at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
As part of those preparations, Bohniski sent an invitation to every living American president, including President Donald Trump.
Barack Obama wrote back.
“Each of us has a role to play in creating a better world for future generations, and it’s clear you are doing your part to look out for your fellow citizens,” the 44th president wrote, wishing Bohinski and his mother continued support for their efforts to lifting up the lives of those around us.
“Obama even hand-signed the return envelope,” Bohinski said. “It’s a little surreal.”
Gov. Tom Wolf also sent a letter expressing his support of Bohinski’s work.
Known as “Boh the Smile Guy,” Bohinski is the founder of NYC Smile 4 Me, which started as a blog with a simple premise: chronicling things that made him smile. He used the platform to document “smile stories” from a wide range of celebrities, including Bette Midler, Steve Martin and Morgan Freeman, generating interest by tagging them #SmileStory.
A hashtag is a word or phrase, preceded by a hash or pound sign, that is used to identify messages on a specific topic on social media, especially when promoting a concept, event or news topic.
Here at home, Bohinski is promoting the upcoming Smile Day, which will be a free event with activities for all ages.
Saturday’s event will be a follow-up to last year, when Oct. 21, 2017, was declared Smile Day in Wilkes-Barre Township, in honor of Bohinski and his efforts, with free games, prizes, bingo, entertainment and food.
Watch for a preview feature later this week in the Times Leader.
“It’s encouraging to have so much local support from people who want to be a part of this great celebration,” Bohinski said.
